Justin Timberlake is procrastinating on dropping any new music like a boss, and his latest venture (aside from acquiring Henry Kissinger’s eyeglasses) is becoming creative director of Myspace.

“There’s a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect. Myspace has the potential to be that place… Art is inspired by people and vice versa, so there’s a natural social component to entertainment. I’m excited to help revitalize Myspace by using its social media platform to bring artists and fans together in one community.”

Other than his newfound love of generic business talk (I much prefer him informing me of his intent to have me naked by the end of this song), Timberlake’s statement seems to indicate that he’s going to turn Myspace into a kind of art-Reddit, which could be the site’s saving grace, since it already tried and failed to be a place for people to interact with entertainers, listen to music and watch videos, albeit one made eye-bleedingly ugly by whatever HTML monstrosity people decided to pepper their pages with.

And the bubbling, carefully-worded enthusiasm goes both ways. Tim Vanderhook, the CEO of Specific Media, the company that purchased the site from News Corp, said:

“We’re thrilled about the opportunity to rebuild and reinvigorate Myspace… We look forward to partnering with someone as talented as Justin Timberlake, who will lead the business strategy with his creative ideas and vision for transforming Myspace. This is the next chapter of digital media, and we are excited to have a hand in writing the script.”

Holy mixed metaphors, Batman! Between rebuilding, rewriting and reinvigorating Myspace, when will JT have time to plot the sequel to FutureSex/LoveSounds, the much darker The Sexy Strikes Back?
