Rapper NAS has been ordered to pay more than $290,000 in backdated support payments and legal bills to ex-wife KELIS.

In January (10), the Milkshake hitmaker asked a judge to summon her former partner to court, alleging the hip-hop star had failed to keep up with spousal support payments and child support for their son, Knight.

In court papers, Kelis’ legal team claimed the rapper had fallen behind by $56,911.

Nas was ordered to Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday (12Apr10), and the judge presiding over the case ruled the star must hand over an immediate payment of $47,249 in backdated child support and $40,454 in spousal support.

The judge also increased monthly spousal support payments to $10,000 a month until Nas has paid the money he owes his ex-wife.

The rapper was also hit with a $155,787 bill for Kelis’ legal fees, as well as $48,549 to cover her accounting costs, according to TMZ.com.

Nas and Kelis split at the beginning of 2009, shortly before the birth of their son.

There are great fathers all over the world who are trying to be there for their kids, but bad situations turn worse, and the children become the last piece of the game to be played. When a man doesn’t step up to the plate, the court system makes them pay to support their child. Yet, one thing the court system doesn’t do, is make sure the man is apart of the child’s life. Sure they assign visitation, but they don’t enforce visitation like they enforce the payment of funds. Don’t pay your child support and a man will be behind bars. Don’t go pick up your child, and a man will be in the clubs, the pool hall or where ever else he pleases and the woman is forced to be a father to a young man. American justice.

The court system is so bad that many men have given up on trying to get help for their situations. I remember when my child was first born, I was going through a small bit of drama and I filed a case with the court system, I left feeling like I had been penalized. Before the court case I filed, I saw my child everyday. After the court case I saw my child every OTHER weekend. I was so upset that it only caused more tension between the mother of my child and myself. I tried again a few years later and I still didn’t get the result I wanted. It was then that I realized that all I was to the court system was just a bank.

Welcome to the Bank of Xilla. It took a lot of maturing, and a great baby mother to finally work things out without the court system and we now have an agreement we should have had 8 years ago. I am blessed. Many men are not as fortunate.

My best friend might have the worst baby mother in the world. He has his child the majority of the time. His child’s mother is a no good groupie type chick, who has 5 other kids with 3 other men. He filed for custody, just like Dwayne Wade did, but since he doesn’t have Dwayne Wade money, he was told to pay even more money in child support and his visitation was cut. He’s now the sole income for his baby mother and her children. This caused him to somewhat loose his mind.

My personal examples are much worst, but I refuse to spread the business of my friends and personal life, so I’ll use Dwayne Wade’s case as an example. D-Wade wanted to bring his sons to All Star Weekend…Every man and woman here can vouch for how much men love basketball; so I think it’s safe to say that going to All Star Weekend would be a young boy’s dreams. Siohvaughn decided she wasn’t about to let D-Wade see his children, for whatever reason, so she decided to throw the boy’s a birthday party…10 days after the boy’s birthday. She also refused to turn the boys over for Father’s day the most important holiday for a man.

While most women are the best mothers in the world and will always put their children first, there are some out there that give all women a bad name. They are spiteful and vengeful. Wade’s ex wife didn’t stop there, she spread lies about contracting an STD from him, tales of abuse and numerous other things. Dwayne Wade, not wanting his kids to be teased and terrorized by other school children because of things that may be said in the media has kept quiet until releasing the documents and hasn’t said a word since. Now that is a good father. A man who only has his best interests in the interest of the children, that’s all. He isn’t out to embarrass anyone, he isn’t trying to spread lies about anyone. All he would like to do is to be a father to his children and in today’s world of non-existent fathers and single mothers who work harder than a slave in a cotton field… Isn’t that all we can ask for.

I hope once Dwayne Wade has settled his custody and divorce case that he will step up and be the face for good fathers all over the world. It’s time we had a spokesperson and I nominate D-Wade. Oh yeah D-Wade come to the Knicks next season too!

Kanye West is finishing up his long-awaited follow-up to 808s and Heartbreaks, reports Billboard.com.

The album, which has been referred to titled Good Ass Job, will reportedly feature production from artists such as Q-Tip, RZA and Pete Rock. “I just try to work with people who I admire or whom I think has got it,” said Tip in an interview with Brooklyn Bodega. “So right now I’m working on Nas’ shit, about to work with Kanye on his shit.”

According to Roc4Life.com, RZA and Pete Rock were in Hawaii recording with Kanye, though Pete Rock refuted the claim via his Twitter page, and said the trip was “just a vacation.” Pete Rock did, however, allude to a secret project he was working on, which would fall in line with previous West collaborators.

Good Ass Job is set to hit stores in June, according to G.O.O.D. Music artist Big Sean.

Gilbert Arenas won’t have to serve jail time, a judge ruled Friday.

The Washington Wizards three-time All-Star point guard was sentenced Friday in D.C. Superior Court by Judge Robert E. Morin on one felony count of violating the District of Columbia’s strict gun laws

Arenas must serve 30 days in a halfway house and register as a gun offender.

He was sentenced to two years probation and must donate $5,000 to victims of violent crimes fund and do 400 hours community service.

The prosecution and defense teams stated their cases earlier this week in voluminous filings. It was all far beyond anything Arenas imagined on that December morning when he says he brought four guns to the locker room to play a prank on a teammate.

Prosecutors wanted Arenas to go to jail for at least three months. They pointed out he lied repeatedly about why the guns were in the locker room, that he tried to cover up what happened, that he displayed a cavalier attitude about the whole affair, that he knew bringing guns into D.C. was illegal, and that he has a prior gun conviction.

Arenas’ lawyers asked for probation and community service, arguing that he was playing a misguided joke with no intention to harm anybody. They pointed out that the guns were unloaded, that Arenas’ lighthearted comments about the incident were misinterpreted, and that he’s a good role model who goes beyond the call of duty when it comes to community service. They added he was confused about D.C.’s gun laws, and that he’d already been severely punished through humiliation and the loss of tens of millions of dollars from canceled endorsements and his suspension without pay for the rest of the NBA season.

The maximum term for Arenas’ crime was five years. The sentencing guidelines for someone with his record called for 6-24 months, although those guidelines also allow for probation.

A general survey of similar cases over the last two years in the city indicate that about half of the defendants convicted of Arenas’ crime receive some jail time, but the mitigating circumstances vary widely. Arenas’ prior conviction — a no contest plea to carrying a concealed weapon in California in 2003 — was already a major strike against him, and the evidence revealed this week that he appeared to instigate a cover-up — as shown in a text message produced by prosecutors — has further damaged his case.

There was little dispute about the basic facts of the case. Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton got into an argument over a card game and exchanged threats while the team was flying home from a road game on Dec. 19. Two days later, Arenas brought his guns to the locker room and put them in a chair by Crittenton’s locker with a sign saying, “Pick 1.” Crittenton then retrieved his own gun and showed it to Arenas.

Crittenton pleaded guilty in January to a misdemeanor gun charge and received a year of unsupervised probation. Arenas entered his guilty plea on Jan. 15.
