Beyonce’s Super Bowl halftime show has, predictably, sent sales of her music skyrocketing.
The diva headlined the Super Bowl XLVII halftime festivities in New Orleans last night (Feb. 3), where she performed eight songs and reunited with Destiny’s Child.
Industry sources suggest that in the week ending Feb. 3, Beyonce’s digital album sales jumped by over 230%. Meanwhile, those of her group Destiny’s Child soared by more than 600%. That latter increase is inordinately large as it includes sales of the trio’s brand new Love Songs compilation, released last Tuesday. The set features one new recording, “Nuclear.”
The album sales gains are also aided by discount pricing in both the iTunes and Amazon MP3 stores. The former discounted key earlier titles from Beyonce and Destiny’s Child to $7.99 while the latter marked them down to between $5 and $7.99.
In terms of digital song sales, Beyonce’s grew by an estimated 85% while Destiny’s Child’s rose by over 300%.
Beyonce’s biggest selling song of the week was “Halo,” which closed her eight-song halftime set. The biggest Destiny’s Child song of the week, according to early data, looks to be “Say My Name” (which was not part of the halftime medley). Two Destiny’s Child tunes were performed at the Super Bowl: “Bootylicious” and “Independent Women (Part 1).”
The week’s official Nielsen SoundScan sales figures for Beyonce and Destiny’s Child will be released on Wednesday (Feb. 6). Further impact from the halftime show will be felt next week, after a full seven days’ worth of sales are registered post-game.

After the comments made on a previous post reporting President Obama’s second-term inauguration, it appeared that some have the “same s***, different day” attitude.
Consequently, we are providing five reasons for why the commander-in-chief was granted an over the top extravaganza another time around.
1. To show that having an African American president wasn’t just a hoax:
When Obama was selected to run this country four years ago it was during a time of desperation. Although it was history in the making, America didn’t want more of the same from Senator McCain. Being re-elected was confirmation that he is more than capable of taking on this position of leadership. The MLK holiday weekend was the perfect time to recognize it.
2. To unify America:
Barack came in at a time of chaos. The United States was divided. Four years ago we were in the middle of two wars. This weekend was to glorify such triumphs like bringing the troops home from Iraq, finally getting Osama Bin Laden, and diversifying the Supreme Court.
3. To inform us on the legacy he wants his administration to leave behind:
Among the achievements listed above, Obama wants to accomplish more. In his inauguration address he mentioned gay rights, immigration, climate change, and gun control. It was an opportunity to summarize what he wants America to look like in the next four years.
These inauguration ceremonies were also to honor all the civilians who canvassed and knocked from door to door during the campaign. This is their proof that all their hard work eventually paid off.
5. Finally, how about this being his last chance to see tons of supporters gathered together to celebrate his second-term in office.
When he left the West Front of the U.S. Capitol after delivering his second inaugural address he took a moment to look back and said:
“I want to take a look one more time. I’ll never see this again.”

The fans have spoken. Public Enemy has been voted onto the list of 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.
The collective’s members Chuck D., Flavor Flav, Professor Griff, the S1Ws, (one-time DJ Terminator X) and DJ Lord lead the list, announced Tuesday (December 11), along with late disco diva Donna Summer, Canadian rockers Rush, sister-duo Heart, singer/songwriter Randy Newman and blues guitarist Albert King.
For the first time in Rock Hall history, fans were invited to vote for their favorite musicians, knocking out nominees such as Deep Purple, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and N.W.A.
Public Enemy will join a narrow group of hip-hop acts, including the Beastie Boys, Run-DMC and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
As non-performers, Lou Adler and Quincy Jones will also make their way into the Hall of Fame and will be acknowledged at the April 18, 2013, ceremony in Los Angeles.
After a five-year absence, the Aston Martin Vanquish has returned. However, its arrival as a 2014 model, means the end for the DBS, as the fresh new coupe will replace the outgoing vehicle.
The new Vanquish starts with an all-aluminum monocoque chassis that the automaker calls its “Generation 4 VH” platform. Affixed to the lightweight framework is an aluminum, magnesium alloy and composite body, every single body panel is now carbon-fiber. Compared to its DBS predecessor, Aston Martin claims the new structure is lighter and 25-percent more rigid.
In terms of performance, Aston Martin quotes 0 to 60 mph in just under four seconds with a top speed of 183 mph. With the base price of $279,995, the Vanquish is offered in both 2+0 and 2+2 configurations, but the standard two-seater configuration is highly recommended.
