The Saddleback men’s basketball team made a statement in game one of the playoffs on Friday night 2/25/11 with a 75-52 win over Barstow College at the Saddleback Gymnasium. Terrell Mack scored 14 points in 13 Minutes now thats “BIG TIME SCORING” Terrell is quickly earning his name as “THE REAL T-MACK as the Gauchos advanced to the third round of the playoffs to meet either Southwestern College or Los Angeles Southwest College next Wednesday night. (New Infor 2/27/11) The Saddleback men’s basketball team will travel to Southwestern College on Wednesday night to take on the Jaguars in the regional finals after Southwestern defeated Los Angeles Southwest College, 76-72, on Saturday night. If the Gauchos were to win on Wednesday, they would now host the regional finals next Saturday after No. 3 seed Santa Monica College was upset by Los Angeles Harbor College, 71-66, in other regional playoff action.
Saddleback (25-6) and Southwestern (24-2) met back in December, with the Jaguars defeating the Gauchos 71-66. In that game, Saddleback big man Wendell Faines fouled out of the game as the Gauchos led by seven points at halftime but was unable to hold on for the win.
Game time is set for 7:00 PM in Chula Vista, with the Gauchos playing for the right to host the regional finals next Saturday. Saddleback was expected to be on the road for the remainder of the playoffs but with unexpected losses by Riverside College and Santa Monica College over the weekend, the Gauchos would now be the top seed in the bracket if they are able to beat the Jaguars. Los Angeles Harbor College (16-10) will meet Mt. San Jacinto College (20-8) in the other regional semifinal.
