The final PacWest Player of the Week award was given to UH Hilo junior Terrell Mack. Mack is one of two Vulcans to receive the conference’s weekly honor, joining senior Zach Wilde, who was given the honor in December.

Mack has either outright lead or been tied for the team’s scoring lead in each of the last five games. This week, Mack scored 23.5 points per game as the Vulcans went 1-1 this week. Mack scored 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting on Thursday in his team’s win against Hawaii Pacific. On Saturday, Mack scored 22 points, going 8-of-13 from the field in their loss at Chaminade.

For the week, Mack led the entire conference in scoring. He also finished seventh in shooting, firing at a 63 percent clip from the field. Mack also grabbed 5.5 rebounds per contest, and hit 50 percent of his three-point shots. He also converted 10 of 13 attempts from the free throw line.

On the season, Mack led the Vulcans by scoring 16 points per game. He also was the team leader in blocks with 10.

The Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity Game took place tonight in Orlando at the Center Court at Jam Session, inside the Orange County Convention Center. As always, the game was a mix of known celebrities and former NBA and WNBA players, with the East prevailing for the second straight year with the final score in the game 86-54.

Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education of the United States of America had a standout performance with 17 points 8 rebounds and 5 assists, but with the MVP a fan vote Kevin Hart took home the Most Valuable Player award. In a classy move, Hart announced he was sharing the award with Duncan.

Kevin Hart, actor and stand up comedian was a little spitfire out there taunting anything that moved. Dwight Howard’s East squad had little trouble with Kevin Durant’s West squad. Other celebrities included Ne-Yo, Common, JB Smoove, Vinny Guadagnino, Javier Colon, Drew and Jonathan Scott, Jesse Williams.The NBA Legends included Mitch Richmond, Penny Hardaway, Nick Anderson and 2011 WNBA MVP Tamika Catchings. Doug Gottlieb of ESPN was also out there.

Kanye West has already won three trophies on the Pre-Telecast Grammy ceremony. The Louis Vuitton Don won for Best Rap Album for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Best Rap Collaboration and Best Rap Song for that album’s single “All of the Lights.”

Fantasy beat out Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV, Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday, Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers and even managed to beat himself, besting The Thrones Watch The Throne disc.

Jackson flew yesterday to Dolow in Somalia’s southern border region, where thousands of women and children have taken refuge at Kabasa camp for displaced people fleeing from drought and conflict. He saw women and children being screened for malnutrition, and visited a nearby school.

“What I am seeing is devastating — these women and children have risked everything to come to this Somalia camp, just to get food,” he said. “They need our help.”

Jackson today visited a school in a Nairobi slum where he met children, many of them orphans.

“To meet those kids was so inspiring, they have nothing, yet they are so positive and optimistic. I want to do my part so they get food and an education. I hope more people will join me to help end this devastating situation,” he said.

In September, Jackson made a public commitment to provide one billion meals for the hungry. As part of his fundraising drive, he is donating to WFP money from the sales of a new energy drink, called Street King. For every unit sold, he has pledged to donate 10 U.S. cents, which covers the typical cost of food in a WFP meal.

WFP provides nourishing meals and snacks to improve concentration in the classroom and to encourage families to enrol and keep their children in school.

Jay-Z was in a really great mood Monday (September 26) when he sat down with Fox 5’s “Good Day New York” to announce a name change for the New Jersey Nets basketball team.

“We’ve decided that the final name would be the Brooklyn Nets,” said Hov, who is a minority owner in the team. “I’m giddy right now.”

The team will be moving into Barclays Center arena in Brooklyn next year. To celebrate Hov will be performing eight shows at the 18,000 seat venue.

“I’m going to open the building with a couple of concerts… maybe like eight,” Jay said.
