Jackson’s role would be president of basketball operations, in complete control of all basketball-related matters, according to the source.
It is unclear whether the decision would include an agreement to coach the Knicks next season, the source said. A decision is expected sometime next week.
Knicks president Steve Mills had offered the head-coaching position to Jackson but he declined. The 68-year-old Hall of Fame coach has said that he would like to move into a front office and run a team.

The 147-pound unification fight will be carried by Showtime PPV and take place at a venue to be determined — either in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand, the front-runner, where Mayweather has had his last eight fights, or the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., which came into the picture in recent weeks and is making a strong push for the fight.
Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer, who has worked with Mayweather since 2007 and also promotes Maidana, told ESPN.com that he hopes to have the venue locked in “in the next couple of days along with the ticket information.”
The fight will be the third of a 30-month, six-fight deal worth $200 million-plus that Mayweather signed with Showtime and parent network CBS last February. Mayweather has said he plans to retire at the conclusion of the contract.
Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) holds world titles at junior middleweight and welterweight but will return to welterweight to make his second defense when he faces Maidana (35-3, 31 KOs), a 30-year-old crowd-pleasing slugger from Argentina who will be making the first defense of his belt. Maidana, who landed the fight over fellow former junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan, won his world title in dramatic upset fashion by scoring two knockdowns in a unanimous decision against Adrien Broner in their Dec. 14 brawl at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

The highly anticipated Embraer Legacy 450, the $16.5 million light-midsize jet that the Brazilian manufacturer unveiled in 2007, recently completed its inaugural flight. The flight lasted just one hour and thirty-five minutes, but it is the aircraft’s first operation milestone toward certification and entry into service, which are expected for late this year and late next year, respectively. This flight follows the November 2012 first flight of the midsize Legacy 500 ($19.9 million), which Embraer expects to begin delivering by the end of this year.
The Legacy 450, like the Legacy 500, will be the first jet in its class to feature fly-by-wire controls, which essentially means that the pilot will use an electrical, computer-monitored system to manipulate control surfaces, such as flaps and rudders, rather than manually operating them with hinges and tracks. The jet’s performance specifications include a nearly 2,900-mile range, a top speed beyond 540 mph, and an operating ceiling of 45,000 feet. The Legacy 450 will seat as many as nine passengers in a 6-foot-tall, flat-floor cabin—the largest in the light-midsize class.
Mark Zuckerberg “Likes” philanthropy. Following in the footsteps of his generous hero Bill Gates, the Facebook cofounder, chairman and CEO was named the most generous giver in America for 2013.
Along with his wife, Priscilla Chan, the couple gave a donation of 18 million shares of Facebook stock valued at more than $970 million to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, a non-profit that manages and distributes charitable funds. As the largest charitable gift on public record in 2013, their donation places the young couple at the top of The Chronicle of Philanthropy’s list of the 50 most generous donors in American. According to Forbes, Zuckerberg’s net worth is $19 billion as of September 2013.
In third place was Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife, who donated $500-million for cancer research at the Oregon Health & Science University Foundation.
Former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg came in forth, followed by John and Laura Arnold of Texas. Explore the full list of the 50 most generous donors of 2013.

…on his legacy of playing Stringer Bell on HBO’s The Wire:
“That really is more about the writing of The Wire than it is the performance. You know, Stringer Bell is a great character that was written. I happened to play him, but it could’ve been anybody playing that role.”
You really feel like anybody could’ve played Stringer?
“Listen, I think I brought Stringer to life my way, but The Wire isn’t a classic because of Stringer Bell. The Sopranos was a classic because of Tony Soprano.”
…on his feud with Liam Gallagher following the NME Awards:
And then he throws on “Wonderwall,” by Oasis, which is curious, because even though the mostly British crowd is howling the song back at him, Elba has been in the tabloids recently for an altercation with Liam Gallagher after this year’s NME Awards; the younger Gallagher brother removed Elba’s wool cap in an apparently disrespectful manner. Elba took issue; the two men got into it. So it seems suspicious, Elba playing Gallagher’s song, and the next day, when we meet up again, I ask him about it. “Wonderwall” last night—were you taking a shot? “No! F–k that idiot. No.”
Paternity drama:
He was dating a woman in Florida, had been for a couple of years. They were living together and in love. She became pregnant and gave birth to a boy. For a brief moment, it was among the happiest times of Elba’s life. “The celebration of having a son—from a man’s perspective, it’s massive.” He told friends about it. He told reporters about it. Then came the suggestion—not from the child’s mother, but from elsewhere—that not everything was what it appeared to be.
“It wasn’t immediately obvious—well, it was, because he didn’t look like me,” Elba says. “But it wasn’t immediately obvious what had gone down.” Eventually, Elba decided to take a paternity test, which showed the child wasn’t his. “To be given that and then have it taken away so harshly,” he says, “was like taking a full-on punch in the face: POW.”
…on finding out he was not the father of a boy he was calling his own:
“You know, the truth is—like, even admitting it, I’ll probably get laughed at for the rest of my life. But it is just tragic, and it happened.” He looks directly at me when he says this. “But I wasn’t knocked out. I stood right the f–k back up, and I ain’t aiming to take another punch in the face ever again.
Do you understand what I’m saying? It happened to me. I moved on.” In a paradoxical way, he says, it was freeing. “I’ve not been an angel in my life, either—do you know what I’m saying? So to a certain extent, what goes around comes around. But for me in the future, I’m about being comfortable. That’s it.”
He disappears: As a kid, Elba says, “I sort of blended into the background quite a bit. I wasn’t the guy that was a big personality. I was the tall, silent, quiet type.” Even now—I can attest to this—he gets lost in crowds. Walk into a room with him and watch him disappear. “I call it the invisible factor,” he says. “On any ordinary street, walking down in London Soho in a cap, I’m just a f–king tall black man walking along.”
Miley thought there was a chance the network might pull the plug on her mid-performance, but she didn’t expect so much shock and vitriol. “Honestly, that was our MTV version,” she says. “We could have even gone further, but we didn’t. I thought that’s what the VMAs were all about! It’s not the Grammys or the Oscars. You’re not supposed to show up in a gown, Vanna White-style” – a little dig at Taylor Swift. “It’s supposed to be fun!”
Miley Cyrus Is Very Self-Aware. OK, Guys?
“I wasn’t trying to be sexy. If I was trying to be sexy, I could have been sexy. I can dance a lot better than I was dancing.” She knows sticking her tongue out isn’t hot and that those weird stubby pigtails aren’t flattering (“I look like a little creature”). And she even knows it’s ridiculous for her to twerk. “People are like, ‘Miley thinks she’s a black girl, but she’s got the flattest ass ever,’” she says. “I’m like, I’m 108 pounds! I know! Now people expect me to come out and twerk with my tongue out all the time. I’ll probably never do that sh*t again.”

The Scandal premiere, which featured fallout from the revelation of Olivia Pope’s (Washington) affair with the president (Tony Goldwyn), was up 57% in viewers and an even larger 71% in young adults compared to last fall’s opener. It enjoyed its biggest growth to date out of Grey’s Anatomy (9.4 million, up 1% from last week’s two-hour premiere), topping its lead-in by 12% in viewers and 20% in young adults.
On the social-media front, Scandal scored a series-high and evening-high 712,877 tweets, up 714% from last season’s premiere and 22% from May’s season finale.
In the battle of comedy stars, the second episode of Robin Williams’ The Crazy Oneson CBS (11.8 million) was down 24% from last week, but it stomped the premiere of NBC’s Sean Hayes comedy, Sean Saves the World (4.9 million). The Michael J. Fox Show (5.9 million), now in its regular NBC time slot, was down 21% from last week but built on Hayes’ lead-in.
Both Crazy and a new CBS comedy, The Millers (13.2 million), benefited by following Thursday’s most-watched show, The Big Bang Theory (17.8 million, down 6% from its performance in the same time slot last week). Hayes and Fox, by contrast, built on their lead-ins, getting no help from Parks and Recreation (3.5 million, up 6% from last week) and the premiere of Welcome to the Family (3.3 million) earlier in the evening.
After 13 years at the top, Coca-Cola has been dethroned by Apple as the world’s most valuable brand according to a report by Interbrand, a branding and corporate identity consulting company. Placement on the company’s Best Global Brands annual report, which it’s been producing since 2000, is decided based on a variety of criteria including financial performance and public impact. According to this year’s report, Apple’s value is currently estimated at $98.3 billion, a 28% increase from 2012.
The upset for the soft drink giant as well as the current top 10 are just some of the signs of the dominance of technology brands in the marketing community. Many of Apple’s rivals are in the top ten including Google (now in 2nd place up from 4th), Samsung (from 9th to 8th), Microsoft (still 5th), I.B.M. (3rd to 4th) and Intel (8th to 9th).
Although Apple might have won the value game, a bright spot for Coca-Cola is its Facebook popularity, with 73.2 million likes on its Fan Page as opposed to Apple’s 9.8 million.
