The 2010 NBA Draft took place on Thursday night (June 24) in New York, and it went down in the record books.

With the No. 1 pick in the draft, the Washington Wizards selected Kentucky Wildcats point guard John Wall. Following him was a record number of his Kentucky teammates.

In all, five Kentucky players were drafted in the first round of the Draft — the first time it’s happened in NBA history.

Wall is the SEC player of the year, and the first Kentucky player to be chosen first overall. However, his team fell short of the Final Four, despite all the talent around him.

As a Wizard, he hopes he can help them bounce back after the team endured embarrassment when star Gilbert Arenas was suspended for the rest of the season for bringing guns into the locker room.

“I feel like I had pressure since I became No. 1 in high school and was one of the top players,” Wall said. “I always got there hungry wanting to fight hard and compete in every game, so when I step on the court I’m going to take on any challenge there.”

It’s unclear what his role will be with the Wizards. Will he replace Arenas? Or play alongside him? Making an exciting Wizards backcourt.

While Arenas is eligible to return, Wall said he isn’t opposed to taking the reigns if he doesn’t.

“I was always a leader by example being the first in the gym and the last in the gym,” Wall said. “But I’m a leader that doesn’t mind speaking up to the older guys.”

With the No. 2 pick, the Philadelphia 76ers took national player of the year Evan Turner from Ohio State; while the New Jersey Nets picked up Georgia Tech freshman Derrick Favors with the third choice.

The Minnesota Timberwolves followed by draftig Syracuse forward Wesley Johnson with the fourth overall pick.

Wall’s Kentucky teammate DeMarcus Cousins was taken by Sacramento at No. 5; Baylor’s Ekpe Udoh was picked by Golden State with No. 6; Detroit selected Georgetown center Greg Monroe with the seventh pick; and the Los Angeles Clippers went for Wake Forest’s Al-Farouq Aminu.

Butler’s Gordon Hayward went ninth to Utah; while the Indiana Pacers chose Fresno State forward Paul George with the 10th pick overall.

Nicki Minaj is not phased when people call her a weirdo. In fact, the “Roger That” rapper embraces it.
“I don’t mind being called a weirdo,” Minaj told Interview magazine. “There are a lot of people in hip-hop who are probably never going to get what I do.”

Claiming that she’s only reached the level she has by being herself and not appealing to what someone else wanted, Minaj says “just being myself, I end up touching a lot more people who might never have paid much attention to a female rapper.”

An NBA Hall of Famer is confirming the reported relationship between the mother of Lebron James and fellow Cleveland Cavalier Delonte West saying that the rumors are “absolutely true.”

As previously reported rumors swirled last week that James’ poor performance in the Eastern Conference semifinals was because he heard that his mother was having a sexual relationship with his teammate.

He has since denied those claims through his lawyer who’s spoken out to call them “rubbish”, “defamatory” and “categorically false.”

Unfortunately for King James however, the scandal’s picking up steam now that Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy is commenting on the issue.

Murphy, a former player for the Houston Rockets, appeared on ESPN radio and when asked his opinion on the scandal he candidly said,

“It ain’t no rumor. Unfortunately my sources in the NBA tell me that it’s absolutely true. My sources…and they’re legit tell me that the only people who didn’t know what was happening were Lebron and me…I could not imagine me being in that situation and him still being on my team because one of us is going to be dead and the other one’s going to be in jail. No question about it…they was doing the horizontal pokey.”

Took them long enough.

The lawyer sent a cease and desist letter to the website originally reporting the story and said “no thinking person would believe this story.”

According to TMZ: In the email, Frederick Nance — attorney for LeBron and Gloria — says the report is “categorically false and per se defamatory.” Nance adds, “No thinking person could possibly believe such rubbish.”

All we can do is take a deep breath. This would of been disturbing on another level if it was true.

Jay-Z had breakfast with the real Billionaire Boys Club yesterday.

Jigga who is minority owner of the New Jersey Nets dined with majority owner Mikhail Prokhorov and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg at Gracie Mansion.

Prokhorov, who is from Russia and has a ridiculous net worth of $13.4 billion revealed he and Hov have a lot in common.

According to the New York Daily News, Prokhorov said of Jay-Z “We are soul mates, I’m looking forward to hanging out with him.”

The pair should have plenty of time to do just that as they attempt to resurrect a New Jersey Nets franchise that seems stuck in reverse.

“For me, it’s a great pleasure to be here as the new owner of the Nets, the team with the best record in the whole NBA,” Prokhorov joked. “Was I misinformed?”

Unfortunately not Mr Prokhorov. As Dennis Green would say, the Nets “are who you thought they were.”

MTV: The morning after LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers were bounced from the NBA Playoffs — an exit that very well may have also punched the superstar’s ticket out of Cleveland, since he can opt out of his contract June 30 — Jay-Z, one of his closest friends (and part owner of the New Jersey Nets), phoned in to Stephen A. Smith’s Fox Sports Radio program to weigh in on the situation.

While Jay didn’t say where he thinks James will end up next season (though, thanks to his friendship with the King, and the salary-cap room the Nets have to work with, New Jersey seems to be a logical fit), he did give his take on the Cavs’ elimination at the hands of the Boston Celtics — which he didn’t find all that shocking, to be honest.

“The first thing I would say is, never really underestimate the heart of a champion,” Jay told Smith. “Like, Boston just won a championship two years ago, and it was a great story for everyone to dismiss them and just say, ‘This is going to be an easy series.’ I think LeBron and the Cavs — because they’re basketball players, they’re not into media sensation — they knew this was going to be a war and a tough series.

“I think Boston got healthy at the right time, and I think the fact that a lot of them were out a lot of the year, it kind of worked in their favor, because a lot of them are rested,” Jay continued. “They’re rested and they’re healthy at the right time, and this is a champion just two years ago. … So this is not like a 16 seed; this is a real team. And [Celtics point guard Rajon] Rondo is playing like [onetime Celtics star] Nate Archibald or somebody, man. Who is this guy?”

Smith also grilled Jay on his relationship with new Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov, an eccentric Russian billionaire who bought controlling interest of the team late last year (a deal that was approved by the NBA earlier this week). Jay said that he’s already met with Prokhorov and that he plans to play an “active” role in the rebuilding of the franchise.

“I sat down with him, and we had a fantastic conversation, and there were things that I really wanted to make clear: that I wanted to be an active owner and this is something I really care about. It’s not just a name cachet for me,” Jay said. “It’s just a thing that I love. I love sports. Everybody was happy about what I was saying, so it looks like I’ll be taking a more active role in what’s going on. … Should be fun.”

Rumorville all over the net is saying that Cavilers Guard Delonte West has been sleeping with LeBron James mother and the affair has been going on for a while now. According to Terez Owens:

Rapper NAS has been ordered to pay more than $290,000 in backdated support payments and legal bills to ex-wife KELIS.

In January (10), the Milkshake hitmaker asked a judge to summon her former partner to court, alleging the hip-hop star had failed to keep up with spousal support payments and child support for their son, Knight.

In court papers, Kelis’ legal team claimed the rapper had fallen behind by $56,911.

Nas was ordered to Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday (12Apr10), and the judge presiding over the case ruled the star must hand over an immediate payment of $47,249 in backdated child support and $40,454 in spousal support.

The judge also increased monthly spousal support payments to $10,000 a month until Nas has paid the money he owes his ex-wife.

The rapper was also hit with a $155,787 bill for Kelis’ legal fees, as well as $48,549 to cover her accounting costs, according to TMZ.com.

Nas and Kelis split at the beginning of 2009, shortly before the birth of their son.

Last week Dwayne Wade released 300 pages of documents citing the drama he is going through with his ex wife and baby mother Siohvaughn. Dwayne broke his silence to address accusations about STDs, abuse, and much more, which all turned out to be lies. He states his case, and all he wants to be is be a good father, but it seems that he is not being given the opportunity due to his baby mother. Welcome to my life.

There are great fathers all over the world who are trying to be there for their kids, but bad situations turn worse, and the children become the last piece of the game to be played. When a man doesn’t step up to the plate, the court system makes them pay to support their child. Yet, one thing the court system doesn’t do, is make sure the man is apart of the child’s life. Sure they assign visitation, but they don’t enforce visitation like they enforce the payment of funds. Don’t pay your child support and a man will be behind bars. Don’t go pick up your child, and a man will be in the clubs, the pool hall or where ever else he pleases and the woman is forced to be a father to a young man. American justice.

The court system is so bad that many men have given up on trying to get help for their situations. I remember when my child was first born, I was going through a small bit of drama and I filed a case with the court system, I left feeling like I had been penalized. Before the court case I filed, I saw my child everyday. After the court case I saw my child every OTHER weekend. I was so upset that it only caused more tension between the mother of my child and myself. I tried again a few years later and I still didn’t get the result I wanted. It was then that I realized that all I was to the court system was just a bank.

Welcome to the Bank of Xilla. It took a lot of maturing, and a great baby mother to finally work things out without the court system and we now have an agreement we should have had 8 years ago. I am blessed. Many men are not as fortunate.

My best friend might have the worst baby mother in the world. He has his child the majority of the time. His child’s mother is a no good groupie type chick, who has 5 other kids with 3 other men. He filed for custody, just like Dwayne Wade did, but since he doesn’t have Dwayne Wade money, he was told to pay even more money in child support and his visitation was cut. He’s now the sole income for his baby mother and her children. This caused him to somewhat loose his mind.

My personal examples are much worst, but I refuse to spread the business of my friends and personal life, so I’ll use Dwayne Wade’s case as an example. D-Wade wanted to bring his sons to All Star Weekend…Every man and woman here can vouch for how much men love basketball; so I think it’s safe to say that going to All Star Weekend would be a young boy’s dreams. Siohvaughn decided she wasn’t about to let D-Wade see his children, for whatever reason, so she decided to throw the boy’s a birthday party…10 days after the boy’s birthday. She also refused to turn the boys over for Father’s day the most important holiday for a man.

While most women are the best mothers in the world and will always put their children first, there are some out there that give all women a bad name. They are spiteful and vengeful. Wade’s ex wife didn’t stop there, she spread lies about contracting an STD from him, tales of abuse and numerous other things. Dwayne Wade, not wanting his kids to be teased and terrorized by other school children because of things that may be said in the media has kept quiet until releasing the documents and hasn’t said a word since. Now that is a good father. A man who only has his best interests in the interest of the children, that’s all. He isn’t out to embarrass anyone, he isn’t trying to spread lies about anyone. All he would like to do is to be a father to his children and in today’s world of non-existent fathers and single mothers who work harder than a slave in a cotton field… Isn’t that all we can ask for.

I hope once Dwayne Wade has settled his custody and divorce case that he will step up and be the face for good fathers all over the world. It’s time we had a spokesperson and I nominate D-Wade. Oh yeah D-Wade come to the Knicks next season too!

Kanye West is finishing up his long-awaited follow-up to 808s and Heartbreaks, reports Billboard.com.

The album, which has been referred to titled Good Ass Job, will reportedly feature production from artists such as Q-Tip, RZA and Pete Rock. “I just try to work with people who I admire or whom I think has got it,” said Tip in an interview with Brooklyn Bodega. “So right now I’m working on Nas’ shit, about to work with Kanye on his shit.”

According to Roc4Life.com, RZA and Pete Rock were in Hawaii recording with Kanye, though Pete Rock refuted the claim via his Twitter page, and said the trip was “just a vacation.” Pete Rock did, however, allude to a secret project he was working on, which would fall in line with previous West collaborators.

Gilbert Arenas won’t have to serve jail time, a judge ruled Friday.

The Washington Wizards three-time All-Star point guard was sentenced Friday in D.C. Superior Court by Judge Robert E. Morin on one felony count of violating the District of Columbia’s strict gun laws

Arenas must serve 30 days in a halfway house and register as a gun offender.

He was sentenced to two years probation and must donate $5,000 to victims of violent crimes fund and do 400 hours community service.

The prosecution and defense teams stated their cases earlier this week in voluminous filings. It was all far beyond anything Arenas imagined on that December morning when he says he brought four guns to the locker room to play a prank on a teammate.

Prosecutors wanted Arenas to go to jail for at least three months. They pointed out he lied repeatedly about why the guns were in the locker room, that he tried to cover up what happened, that he displayed a cavalier attitude about the whole affair, that he knew bringing guns into D.C. was illegal, and that he has a prior gun conviction.

Arenas’ lawyers asked for probation and community service, arguing that he was playing a misguided joke with no intention to harm anybody. They pointed out that the guns were unloaded, that Arenas’ lighthearted comments about the incident were misinterpreted, and that he’s a good role model who goes beyond the call of duty when it comes to community service. They added he was confused about D.C.’s gun laws, and that he’d already been severely punished through humiliation and the loss of tens of millions of dollars from canceled endorsements and his suspension without pay for the rest of the NBA season.

The maximum term for Arenas’ crime was five years. The sentencing guidelines for someone with his record called for 6-24 months, although those guidelines also allow for probation.

A general survey of similar cases over the last two years in the city indicate that about half of the defendants convicted of Arenas’ crime receive some jail time, but the mitigating circumstances vary widely. Arenas’ prior conviction — a no contest plea to carrying a concealed weapon in California in 2003 — was already a major strike against him, and the evidence revealed this week that he appeared to instigate a cover-up — as shown in a text message produced by prosecutors — has further damaged his case.

There was little dispute about the basic facts of the case. Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton got into an argument over a card game and exchanged threats while the team was flying home from a road game on Dec. 19. Two days later, Arenas brought his guns to the locker room and put them in a chair by Crittenton’s locker with a sign saying, “Pick 1.” Crittenton then retrieved his own gun and showed it to Arenas.

Crittenton pleaded guilty in January to a misdemeanor gun charge and received a year of unsupervised probation. Arenas entered his guilty plea on Jan. 15.
