Today Fool’s Gold records by DJ A-Trak, has announced its first venture into retail. The record label will be opening a store front in Brooklyn, New York, still this month. The store comes with “a French bistro-inspired retail experience, featuring a wooden bar where the taps have been replaced by fully-stocked record crates, custom wallpaper and art prints, and an ever-changing selection of exclusive new merchandise alongside rare finds from the FG archives. Equal parts vinyl mecca, gallery space and clothing boutique, 536 Metropolitan launches as an instant must-visit for music fans of all kinds.”

Lil Wayne Covers July/August Edition Of XXL. Says He’s Ready To Retire Soon

After twelve albums (eight solo, three with the Hot Boys and one with Birdman) Lil Wayne is starting to think about hanging up the mic.

In a new interview with XXL the 28-year old hinted that his career might fade to black after his ninth solo album, ‘Tha Carter IV’ drops in August.

Of course we’ve seen this before act before. Jay-Z famously retired in 2003 only to return to the game three years later.

The big difference between the two is the fact that Jay doesn’t have any kids while Wayne has four. With such a hectic schedule recording and touring, Weezy doesn’t get to spend the time with his family that he would like to.

“I’m bowing out still on top,” Wayne told XXL. “I’ma make y’all want me when I retire. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘Nooo!’ I ain’t leaving out this b*tch when y’all be like, ‘Yeah, it’s about time, dawg.’ Carter IV might be my last one. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘F*ck!’ Yeah, n*gga, I’m gone. I honestly think it’s unfair to my kids. I’m super dedicated into what I do. Like, it’s no questions—it’s hands down, I do this. I live this. I don’t have a day out my week that I do something else. I do this every day of my life, and I’m not about to stop, ’cause that’s the only way you can succeed in this business, is to do it the way I do it. I want to succeed the way I want to succeed. You can succeed. You can put out a hit… But to do it the way I want to do it, to be comfortable to do what the f*** I want to do, you’ve got to work like no other. Like I said, it’s unfair to my kids. So about 30, 31, 32, I gotta get ready.”

The Young Money CEO doesn’t think he’ll be hurting for cash. He plans on kicking his feet up and caking off a of potent roster of artists, Drake and Nicki Minaj in particular.

“I expect to eat, and eat well,” he said “I expect [Drake] to be a lot more successful than he has ever been. I mean, this guy’s a superstar. He is the definition. That’s what I told y’all before he was: ‘That’s the definition of a superstar.’ And like Nicki, he’s only breaking ice. He has yet to be who he’s going to be. I’m banking on them.”

After having signed a licensing agreement with TAITO Corporation on the Space Invaders franchise, Swiss watch maker Romain Jerome presents the first watches, featuring the iconic characters of the video game. The brand presents two limited edition watches, each coming in a series of 78 pieces, paying tribute to the 1978 birth year of the Space Invaders game. 59-year old James Verone is down on his luck. He has a growth of some kind on his chest, an injured foot, two ruptured discs, carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis. Without a job or health insurance the only idea he could come up with was to rob RBC Bank in Gaston, NC hoping to get a three year sentence so his ailments could get treated.

Verone entered the bank unarmed on Thursday (June 9) and handed a teller a note with his demand.

“The note said ‘this is a bank robbery, please only give me one dollar,'” Verone explained while sitting in Gaston County jail charged with felony larceny. “This is the first time I’ve ever been in trouble with the law. I’m sort of a logical person and that was my logic. (That was) what I came up with.”

Before leaving his house by cab to commit the robbery, Verone sent a letter to the Gaston Gazette listing the county jail as the return address.

“When you receive this a bank robbery will have been committed by me. This robbery is being committed by me for one dollar,” he wrote. “I am of sound mind but not so much sound body.”

Verone is currently in jail on $2000 bond.

Nia Long, has confirmed that she and her boyfriend Ime Udoka,of the San Antonio Spurs (he was actually released from the team back in January so not sure if he’s going to play in the league next season) are expecting their first child together. And the baby is due this fall.

The couple told People.com in a statement today:

“This is the most exciting time in our lives.”

“Words can’t explain how thrilled we are by the new addition to our family. We feel truly blessed and appreciate all the well wishes and prayers.”

Well isn’t that special. The two have been dating for two years, and Nia has an 10-year-old son named Massai, Jr. from a previous relationship. Congrats again to the couple!

Who would have thought after 22-years in the music industry, Cash Money co-founder Baby a.k.a. Birdman, would be on top of the game? Responsible for three of the rap world’s biggest artists—Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj—Birdman is one of the hip-hop’s last true moguls. For XXL‘s forthcoming June 2011 issue, the magazine spoke with the New Orleans native about his exclusive position in the rap industry as one of the last moguls standing and the secret to his longevity.

In a sit-down with editor-in-chief, Vanessa Satten, Baby reflected on the harsh nature of his profession. “When I look around, through my years and my time, you know, the game, it was a lot in the field, a lot of people doing it,” he says. “And I look around, and it’s like, where the f*** did everybody go? I ain’t never understood that, but the game like that sometimes, that muthafucka’s gon’ keep ya or it’s gon’ leave ya. It’s all on you.”

Despite his current status as one of the only remaining powerhouses, there was a time when many considered Cash Money over. Following the departure of his first successful act—super group the Hot Boys with Wayne, Juvenile, B.G. and Turk—and before Weezy rose to the prominent position that he holds today at the top of the rap food chain—Cash
Money seemed to be losing its touch. But as Birdman tells XXL, the hip-hop heavyweight learned a lot of important life lessons and studies the greats in order to figure out the best way to sustain his position in the game.

Arguably the best decision Baby made, was empowering Lil Wayne with his own label, Young Money, in 2005, which Weezy used to sign stars like Drake and Nicki Minaj over the past couple of years. “Honestly, I gave him the floor,” Baby says of Weezy. “He wanted it. I been with him since he was seven years old, eight years old. I been in his life all of his life, and he was like, “Let me handle, it.” At the time, me as an artist, losing my sister and everything I was going through personally, I was just like, ‘Go ahead, I’ma just support what you gon’ do. You can handle it.’ And I took a step back. Probably was the smarted move I ever made in my life was to let him go ‘head.”

Today marks what would been the 39th birthday for a man who is arguably the best rapper of all time.

Christoper Wallace was known by many stage names: The Notorious B.I.G., Big Poppa, Biggie Smalls and The Black Frank White. Only 24 at the time of his untimely death, he recorded two classic albums, “Ready To Die” and “Life After Death”, and outshined anyone he ever collaborated with.

Without Biggie there would be no Lil Kim or Lil Cease. Both of whom were introduced to the world via Biggie’s group Junior M.A.F.I.A.

His unique delivery, voice and wordplay are still unmatched to this day.

So let’s drink a toast today to Biggie and celebrate his legacy.
