Drake (@Drake) – Obey Your Thirst (Episode 1) …..ThisismotionTV

Total Views 123,234

Coming up in Toronto, people told Drake to move to New York if he was serious about making it. Instead, he stayed where he was and made history by proving that if you’re a truly multi-layered artist, you can make it from anywhere. “Do it the way I did it,” he says in the above Obey Your Thirst documentary. “Do it from where you’re at. If you have the music, that’s all it takes.” Now, at the top of his game, Drake says he competes not with established legends or other top-sellers, but with the countless kids itching to take his spot.

On his hometown:
“Toronto is the reason I do this. All I did was find a way to make people proud of our city. Artists from our city – their whole objective was to get out. So I just had to flip that way of thinking,” he says. “All these guys that are like, you gotta go to new york now to make it happen. No you don’t. That’s dead now. Do it the way the Weeknd did it, do the way PartyNextDoor did it, do it they way I did it. Do it where you’re at. If you have the music, that’s all it takes.”

Nike Will Replace Adidas as N.B.A.’s Official On-Court Apparel

 photo nike_logo_wallpaper_iron_mesh_1920x1080_zpshumc91h4.jpg

Nike will replace Adidas, the N.B.A.’s official provider of on-court apparel, in the 2017-18 season with an eight-year deal that will allow it to manufacture authentic and replica jerseys for retail markets.

The agreement, which was announced Wednesday, is worth about $1 billion, more than double the value of Adidas’s deal, according to an executive briefed on the details of the contact who was not authorized to speak publicly. Adidas’ deal was originally for $400 million over 11 years, but was amended over the years to be worth more.

The league said the deal will let Nike put its logo on uniforms — a first for its official apparel maker — but that it will not count as uniform advertising. The league has plans, but no timetable, for putting ads on uniforms. Commissioner Adam Silver has said that uniform advertising is inevitable.

In a statement, Silver said that Nike “will be instrumental in our collective efforts to grow the game globally while applying the latest in technology to the design of our uniforms and on-court products.”

Mark Parker, the president of Nike, said its offerings — under the Nike, Jordan and Converse names — are among the “most connected in the world.”

Under its contract, Nike will be able to sell T-shirts, shorts, headwear, sweatshirts and socks, and authentic and Swingman replica jerseys.

Ira Mayer — a consultant to various businesses in the licensing industry and the former owner of The Licensing Letter, a trade journal — estimated that the deal probably would bring Nike about $1.5 billion annually in retail sales.

This partnership with NIKE represents a new paradigm in the structure of our global merchandising business,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. “As our exclusive oncourt apparel provider, NIKE will be instrumental in our collective efforts to grow the game globally while applying the latest in technology to the design of our uniforms and oncourt products.”

“We’re excited to bring the full power of our global reach, innovation and creativity to partner with the NBA and grow the game in a way only NIKE can,” said NIKE, Inc. President & CEO Mark Parker. “In NIKE, Jordan and Converse we have three of the most connected brands in the world, and look forward to making the global growth of the game a successful strategy for both the NBA and NIKE.”

Wale The Album About Nothing Debuts Number 1 On Billbaord

Wale debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his Seinfeld-inspired The Album About Nothing. It’s his second chart-topper, following his previous effort, 2013’s The Gifted.

With the No. 1 arrival, Wale beats out the surging Furious 7 soundtrack, which drives 17-2 and is the greatest gainer on the chart.

The Album About Nothing was released on March 31 through EBM Music/Maybach/Atlantic Records, and tallied 100,000 equivalent album units in the week ending April 5 (according to Nielsen Music). The Furious 7 album (on Universal Studios/Atlantic) shifted 74,000 (a gain of 202 percent).

Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division raises the bar once again with the forthcoming 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography. The word modest did not come into play during the design of this vehicle, which boasts 542 hp through an optional supercharged V8 that comes specially tuned for the new SVAutobiography edition. Aside from the lavishly embellished interior, which one can expect as standard from the Range Rover brand, this upcoming top-of-the-line model also features an “Event Seating” configuration, consisting of two seats that can be affixed to the tailgate.

SEC: Startups Can Now Raise $50 Million in ‘Mini IPO’

 photo d231feff4e3e66dce1f3026c95e3089aca7fab247e5771c30700e7a6ae9c0390_large_zpshp8fx9yh.jpg

The SEC on Wednesday approved game-changing final rules in the implementation of Title IV of the JOBS Act, known as “Regulation A+,” which will allow small businesses and startups to raise up to $50 million from “the crowd.”

As I reported more than a year ago, this little-known provision of the JOBS Act will allow a startup company or emerging business to hold a “mini IPO” from the general public, not just accredited investors, and should be a complete game-changer for the way businesses are funded.

Related: Déjà Vu 2012: A Zombie-Frankenstein JOBS Act 2.0 Is in the Works

When Congress passed the JOBS Act in April 2012, Regulation A+ was an attempt to fix Regulation A, a rarely-used provision of federal law that allowed companies to raise up to $5 million in a public offering. Regulation A was a bust because it required the company to register its offering in each state where it was to be sold. The cost of complying with each state’s “Blue Sky Law” was exorbitant, compared to more commonly used laws such as Regulation D that allowed a company to raise the same amount of money, or more, without having to pay for expensive state-by-state compliance.

Under the SEC’s new rules for Regulation A+, the amount that could be raised increases to $50 million and the need for state compliance has been eliminated. More importantly, Regulation A+ allows those funds to be raised from the general public, not just accredited investors like with Regulation D offerings.

The question that had everyone in the crowdfunding world holding their collective breath was simple: Would the SEC keep their proposed rules intact when its leadership voted, or would they succumb to the pressure of state securities regulators who were adamantly opposed to lessening of restrictions for their own selfish financial reasons? The answer is that the SEC stuck by their guns and allowed companies to raise Regulation A+ without having to go to each state and spend a fortune registering their offerings.

Related: People Invest in People — an Overlooked Aspect of Private Investing

Another important issue the SEC decided involved who can invest in these offerings. The JOBS Act limited Regulation A+ offerings to “qualified investors” which led some to argue that only “accredited investors” would be allowed to invest. Accredited investors are those individuals who earn more than $200,000 per year or have a net worth of greater than $1,000,000. However, the SEC broadly defined the term “qualified investors” under Regulation A+ to allow anyone to invest, albeit with some limitations as to the amount.

For those worried about protecting investors from fraud, Regulation A+ only allows investors to invest 10 percent of the greater of their annual income or net worth in these securities. The SEC has also implemented other strong investor protections such as “bad actor” background checks on the companies offering the securities, and disclosure of the company’s financial information as part of the offering.

The Regulation A+ rules can be read in full here. There are hundreds of pages, so get ready for a long read or a fast way to bore yourself to sleep. Having read the entire thing, I can tell you with confidence as a crowdfunding attorney that Regulation A+ has a chance to dramatically change the way small and emerging businesses raise capital in America.

The rules released by the SEC today now have to be published in the Federal Register before they become law, which takes about 60 days. As soon as that happens, entrepreneurs will have the ability to raise millions of dollars from “the crowd” in a simplified and comparatively affordable offering using Regulation A+.

Every Seat a ‘Window Seat’ on this Windowless Plane

It’s being called “the windowless cabin with a view.”

British developers at the Centre for Process Innovation are gearing up to test the world’s first windowless plane — a truly captivating (or potentially unnerving) flying vehicle that could allow passengers to see what’s going on outside. It may be ready in less than a decade.

Instead of windows, full-length screens allow constant views of the outside sky, with imaging that would come from mounted cameras outside of the aircraft. These screens can actually be switched on and off (according to traveler preference).

In addition to cloud sightings, the screens will also allow users to tap the screen to identify prominent sights… or to just join the mile-high internet surfing club.

McLaren Sports Series

 photo McLaren-Sports-Series-700x460_zpshordfrun.jpg

The newly named McLaren Sports Series will consist of not one, but three new models when it is officially unveiled in April.

Speaking at the Geneva Motor Show, Mclaren’s CEO Mike Flewitt described the new model as a “game changer” and said: “When people see that car I think they’re going to be absolutely astonished at what we’ve done.”

The British car company has proven that it can build vehicles that can compete with Ferrari in terms of performance, styling and exclusivity, but the premium sportscar market, currently dominated by the Porsche 911, could prove much more challenging.

As such, the new car will be offered in three varieties — as a hard top, a convertible and as a slightly less powerful cruiser for those clients that want something that they can drive every day.

It will also be the only car in the segment built from lightweight carbon fiber and to offer a mid-mounted V8 engine.

The car will go on sale in October following its official unveiling at the New York International Autoshow on April 3, and prices are expected to start at $150,000.

The Pebble Time has now superseded the Coolest Cooler to become the most funded project in Kickstarter history, raising more than $14.5 million and counting with 24 days left until the campaign comes to a halt. New contributors to the project were likely instigated by the smart watchmaker’s announcement that a new version of the Pebble Time will come in a steel edition – called the Pebble Time Steel – which boasts a 10-day battery life, stainless steel face, scratch-proof lens and support for premium leather and stainless steel watchbands with sensors built into them.

Additionally, each Pebble Time features a new color e-paper display and microphone for responding to notifications. Even with the new technology the brand has been able to maintain water resistance so you can still swim or surf while wearing it, although they don’t recommend submerging the smartwatch.

Mayweather Vs Pacquiao set for May 2

 photo s1bt_zpsfzebai2v.jpg

At long last, pound-for-pound greats Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will finally fight.

Yes, the fight that looms as one of the most anticipated in boxing history is finally on.

For more than five years sports fans have clamored for a summit meeting between the two best fighters in the world and after various failed negotiations — and a protracted and difficult effort to make the fight in recent months — they will get it on May 2 to unify their welterweight world titles at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

 photo 465a06fab188bc19a672caac2e043917_crop_exact_zpsho55qisy.jpg

The showdown is a lock to be the richest in boxing history and will, barring a draw, settle the issue that has been debated for years: Who is the No. 1 fighter in boxing and who is the king of their era?

Mayweather made the announcement on Friday afternoon on a social media platform called Shots, of which he is an investor.

Many involved expected the announcement to come on Thursday but Mayweather was upset because Top Rank, Pacquiao’s promoter, was leaking word of the impending announcement and he wanted it to be a surprise.

According those familiar with the agreement, the contract Mayweather signed for the fight gave him the right to be the one to announce the fight, even though he was obligated to notify Top Rank of when he would do it. On Friday afternoon, Top Rank was notified and Mayweather made the announcement about an hour later.

Although he announced it on Friday the deal had been done for a couple of days with both sides having signed the paperwork. Contracts were also signed by broadcasters HBO and Showtime, who will team for a historic joint pay-per-view.

If we’re to believe Plato, poetry is nearer to truth than history.

That saying certainly holds for groundbreaking black poets like Langston Hughes, who wrote unapologetically about the world through the eyes of a black artist.

SEE ALSO: 7 pioneering black artists who shaped modern music

Numerous black poets have made waves in the literary world, from Gwendolyn Brooks, who in 1950 became the first black writer to win a Pulitzer Prize, to Maya Angelou, one of the foremost poets of the 20th century. Writers like Gil Scott-Heron and Amiri Baraka electrified the written word with their sociopolitical statements, while Audre Lorde and Nikki Giovanni wrote radical lines that addressed sexism and racism.

These are just a few of the pioneering black poets who forged ahead, paving the way for writers that came after them. While this isn’t an exhaustive list by any means, these are nine poets you shouldn’t go any longer without reading.

This Black History Month, take time to appreciate their work with these selections from classic poems.

Jerome Kersey dies at 52 He will be missed Gone to soon!!!! ThisismotionTV

 photo B-Nh6E3CQAAuUXG_zpsdfkzhliy.jpg

Jerome Kersey, a fan favorite during his decade-plus career with the Portland Trail Blazersand a veteran of 17 NBA seasons, died Wednesday. He was 52.

The Trail Blazers confirmed that Kersey had died, but didn’t provide details. According to The Oregonian, Kersey, a team ambassador, spoke to high school students in Portland on Tuesday with fellow former Blazers Terry Porter and Brian Grant in celebration of Black History Month.

Kersey, a 6-foot-7 small forward, was a starter on Portland’s 1990 and 1992 NBA Finals teams. He was a second-round draft pick in 1984 and spent his first 11 seasons in Portland, playing alongside the likes of Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler, Kiki Vandeweghe and Porter. Kersey played for five other NBA teams, winning a championship with San Antonio in 1999. He retired from the NBA in 2001.

“It is so sad,” Drexler told Comcast Sports Northwest upon hearing the news. “It is a huge loss for the Portland community. He was the greatest guy, the nicest friend, teammate and brother. He was loved by everyone. We will all miss him. He just cared so much. This is unbelievable.”

At the time of his retirement, Kersey ranked second on the Blazers’ all-time list in games played (831) and rebounds (5,078), and third in blocked shots (621) and steals (1,059). All told, he played in 1,153 NBA games for Portland, Golden State, the Lakers, Seattle, San Antonio and Milwaukee, averaging 10.3 points and 5.5 rebounds.

Prior to his NBA career, Kersey was a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II All-American at Longwood College, where he was a four-year starter.

Kersey also coached in the NBA as an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks under Porter in 2004-05. Early in his retirement he served as an assistant with the Blazers’ summer league team.

The Blazers franchise lost beloved Hall of Fame coach Dr. Jack Ramsay in 2014 and popular center Kevin Duckworth in 2008. Duckworth was 44 at the time of his death.

Nike Made $80 Million On Sales of Air Jordan 11 Legend Blue

 photo nike-makes-80-million-on-ajxi-1_zpsd7a892e3.jpg

According to SportScanInfo, Nike made $80 million dollars as a result of selling close to 480,000 pairs of Air Jordan 11 Legend Blue sneakers in an estimated three hour window that coincided with the shoe’s online and in-store release. To put that in perspective, there are businesses in Oregon whose annual sales fail to clear the $80 million mark. Nike has raised the bar yet again with the conclusion of this year’s holiday Jordan 11 release. The anticipation now begins to build for next year’s traditional Jordan 11 holiday drop.

Detroit Pistons waive Josh Smith

 photo pistons-josh-smith-2013-gtyjonathandaniel_zpsd6576fbf.jpg

The Detroit Pistons on Monday waived veteran forward Josh Smith, who still had two years and at least $26 million remaining on his contract after this season.

The 29-year-old Smith was averaging 13.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season.

“Our team has not performed the way we had expected throughout the first third of the season and adjustments need to be made in terms of our focus and direction,” coach and team president Stan Van Gundy said in a statement.

“We are shifting priorities to aggressively develop our younger players while also expanding the roles of other players in the current rotation to improve performance and build for our future. As we expand certain roles, others will be reduced. In fairness to Josh, being a highly versatile 10-year veteran in this league, we feel it’s best to give him his freedom to move forward. We have full respect for Josh as a player and a person.”

If Smith clears waivers over the next 48 hours, he will have the right to go elsewhere as a free agent. By choosing to waive Smith now, Detroit will have to pay off what is owed to Smith beyond this season, but the Pistons can reduce the yearly hit to the $5 million range over the next few years with the NBA’s stretch provision.

NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com’s Marc Stein that the Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers are among the teams that will have interest in Smith when he clears waivers Wednesday.

As ESPN.com reported in both June and July, Sacramento tried to tried for Smith, offering various packages that included the likes of Jason Thompson, Derrick Williams and Carl Landry. The Pistons ultimately resisted all such overtures.

Smith was on pace to be the first NBA player to shoot below 40 percent on field goals and below 50 percent on free-throw attempts while taking at least 12 shots per game, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

The Pistons acquired Smith as a free agent after the 2012-13 season. In 105 games with Detroit, he averaged 15.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

Smith was drafted with the 17th overall selection in the 2004 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks.
